We look forward to welcoming all those who have reserved tickets for this evenings Scots in London Q1 2006 Quarterly Extravaganza: 'Burns Night as Rabbie would have liked it!' - you are encouraged to arrive at 6.30pm sharp for haggis. This is a golden ticket event - 250 tickets flew out and were snapped up in 4 days. We are very sorry for the 200 plus others who we are unable to accommodate. We plan to hold a much larger SIL event in March/April - lots planned for 2006 - and hope you can join us then. If you have not reserved a ticket please do not come along as we have no room due to the popularity of the event. Sorry. Wednesday 25 January - 6.30 for 7pm until 12midnight, Scots in London Q1 2006 Quarterly Extravaganza: 'Burns Night as Rabbie would have liked it! Robert Burns (b25Jan1759-d1796) held at the Lansdowne Club (Ballroom), 9 Fitzmaurice Place, Mayfair, London, W1J 5JD - www.lansdowneclub.com - 5 mins walk from Green Park tube station - Map. The club is an opulent and exclusive private members club in the heart of Mayfair, built in 1763 as a grand town house for the Scottish Marquess of Bute, the incumbent Prime Minister, designed by fellow Scot Robert Adam, later owned by Gordon Selfridge (1920-29), the department store magnate. Dress: Club rules - jacket and tie, no jeans or trainers. Dress up / Kilts encouraged.
6.30-7.30pm: Piping on arrival by The Legendary Pinstripe Highlanders. You will be greeted by your host and receive a warming Whyte & Mackay Scotch Whisky and/or luscious welcoming Deuchars IPA beer from the attentive staff - thanks to our lead sponsor Whyte & Mackay and thanks also to the Caledonian Brewery. Take time to meet people, network and enjoy. Fiddler Donald Stewart will delight you with the finest fiddling, while professional photographer Ian Macaulay and professional film-maker Caroline Gardiner snap up the SIL atmosphere.
6.45 - 7.15pm: Haggis will be served buffet-style with neeps and tatties.
7.30-8.15pm: Welcome introductions will be made by your host / sponsor(s) and the traditional SIL group photograph will take place, followed by entertainment - "Burns Nicht as Burns would have liked it!" - opened by the Pinstripe Highlanders who will pipe in the Haggis, followed by a memorable Address to the Haggis/Tam O'Shanter by Andrew Fox, Scotland's Young Globetrotting Burns Talent and a brief Immortal Memory by London Scottish's Stewart Burrows-Petty. This will be followed by poetry by Robert Burns (and his own works) recited by Richard Price, Talented Scottish Published Poet, Star of the Informist School.
8.15-8.30pm: There will then be a short interval, followed by...
8.30-9.30pm: Robin"Rab"Somerville, providing a Quinessentially English take on Scots 4 laughs and Star Act, Les Peters, Scotland's Foremost After-Dinner Speaker / Entertainer with the emphasis on good times. The formal evening will be brought to an end by the amazing voices of Goldie and Grant, Fabulous Scottish Opera Singers (by demand!) accompanied by Dan Mormano on piano.
9.30pm - 12midnight: Singing and piano by Emma-Jane Thommen, Scotland's Answer to the X-Factor, and fiddling/ceilidh music/dancing, jigs and reels led by fiddler Donald Stewart. Network, chat and enjoy. Carriages await at midnight.
