1st February

Dear Scots In London and friends,

This weekend marks the start of this years' Six Nations Rugby Campaign with Scotland taking on England at Twickenham in what looks set to be a closely fought battle for the Calcutta Cup - with the English seeking revenge for last years' defeat!

Scots In London are delighted to encourage all SIL and friends to head over to London Scottish Rugby FC at Richmond Athletic Ground for what looks set to be a fantastic fun-packed weekend of rugby and Scottish hospitality, twenty minutes walk from the action at Twickenham. There's probably no better place for a passionate Scot to catch the Six Nations atmosphere in London than to be at London Scottish this weekend - the home of Scottish Rugby in England. Scots In London (SIL) are great friends, supporters and proud sponsors of London Scottish RFC - a most treasured Scottish institution in London (see scotsinlondon.com on right sleeve of rugby jersey)!

The fun starts on Friday night with a great London Scottish Legends match (KO 7.45pm), featuring Gavin Hastings, Paul Burnell, Damian Cronin, Derek Whyte and Richard Cramb and a host of other ex-London Scottish players turning out in the famous blue again to play the Latter Day Northampton Saints. Bars open from 6pm, canteen for food and gates open at 7.15pm - GBP5 entrance. London Scottish address: Richmond Athletic Ground, Kew Foot Road, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 2SS. By Train and Tube Train (from Waterloo Station) or District Line tube to Richmond Station. Turn right out of station and cross the A316 at the traffic lights. Turn left and the ground is 50 yards on the right.

On Saturday, Whyte and Mackay Calcutta Cup Carnival festivities start at 12noon with London Scottish Rugby FC vs Guildford, which is free with members book and GBP5 for non-members. All SIL will be made most welcome at London Scottish on Friday or Saturday.

The big one, England v Scotland, kicks off at 4pm. The pre-match lunch is sold out. Watch it on Huge Screen TV in Marquee for GBP 5 entrance from 3pm. Live music post match.

"I hope the Scottish don't target Jonny" ...So said Gavin Hastings at a private meeting of club members and friends to launch the Clydesdale Bank sponsorship initiative on Tuesday ... former London Scot Gavin is convinced England have made a huge error selecting England's record points scorer: he went on to say "It is in Scotland's interest to keep him on the pitch as long as possible". See Gavin with his boots on again on Friday evening....

The Scots In London Q1 Quarterly Drinks Bonniest Burns Supper, supported by Whyte and Mackay, is being held this coming Tuesday 6th February at The Porterhouse, 21-22 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, from 6.30pm until late. As well as the great company and entertainment, we'll be joined by a film crew from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) who will be filming SIL for a story for a programme called "Foreign Correspondent", ABC's flagship international current affairs programme. Anyone not wishing to be filmed or caught on camera by 3 paps should notify Eddie Tait asap. A guid nicht awaits. SIL - the net widens!

Before signing off, come on Scottish! Come on Scotland! And let's do it for the first time at Twickenham since 1983! Hope you can support the boys...

Yours aye, Eddie Tait (and SIL Team)
