Oor very ain SIL Ambassador, Nicky Spence - the Scottish Tenor, described in Scotland On Sunday as "the Voice of Scotland", launched his debut album, "My First Love", on Monday 15th January to much acclaim; "Golden Voice", Classic FM Magazine etc. Oor young man fae Dumfries is now hitting the high and low notes in London and is aiming for a Number One spot in the Classical Album charts this Sunday. We'd like to support Nicky by encouraging all Scots In London to visit Nicky's website, buy Nicky's album and pass on this email to your friends and fellow Scots.

Nicky has been a great supporter of Scots In London; so much so that we asked him to become an SIL Ambassador last year. We were delighted when he said yes. Nicky sang superbly in front of 365 SIL at our last Quarterly Drinks bash - the SIL launch night of the new GBP 6.5 million wing at The Caledonian Club in November. He's been a regular at Burns Club of London venaculars and Caledonian Club functions and he was introduced to London Scottish by SIL earlier in the season singing "Flower of Scotland" in front of a home crowd at Richmond to great applause. The following week, he sang in front of a capacity Tartan Army crowd at Hampden Park in Glasgow to help Scotland beat France 1-0 (Ed: How about Twickenham in two weeks time Nicky?). The laddie is destined for great things. When we asked Nicky last Friday if he was excited about the launch Nicky replied "I've always wanted to be a singer and I'm chuffed to bits to be able to be singing for Scotland!".

We introduced Nicky to you last year - SIL Newsletter May 2006. Following the signing of his GBP 1million deal with Universal, 2007 will see the further rise of Nicky. Here's the official story: "At just 23, Nicky Spence has already lived an astonishing life. He has toured extensively with Katherine Jenkins and Shirley Bassey, duetted with Bryn Terfel, performed regularly at the Royal Albert Hall and he has even had a piece composed for him by renowned classical composer John Rutter, not to mention singing alongside Placido Domingo at this yearís Classical Brit Awards plus appearing on GMTV and The Festival of Remembrance. Nicky's mixture of extraordinary talent and honest, grounded character, have taken him to some amazing places. He has sung at Wembley, taken the classical music world by storm as Guildhall School of Music and Drama's youngest ever singer, and at one stage lost 8 stone to go from a 23 stone teenager to his current svelte shape!
